Be a BHS Friend of the Performing Arts

BHS FoPA (Friends of Performing Arts) is a collaborative group of families, faculty and administrators that advances performing arts activities at Brookline High School through parent-driven event support, grants, and outreach. FoPA seeks new volunteers to help in three areas:

Shows

  • Department Liaisons: 2-4 parents per PA department (Music; Chorus; Dance; Drama) needed to coordinate show needs and volunteers with their faculty throughout the year.

  • Show Leads: 2-4 FoPA core volunteers to manage box office logistics (oversee ticket sales, concession donations, night-of volunteer coordination, etc).

Grants

  • Fundraising Leads: 1-2 core volunteers to oversee existing fundraising activities, develop new initiatives, and work with the Treasurer on best practices to support grant requests from PA faculty.

Outreach

  • Publicity: 1-2 parents to assist the Publicity Lead in expanding event marketing throughout Brookline.

  • Parent Networking: 1 parent to co-Admin a new Facebook group for performing arts parents in Brookline to share knowledge and experiences, and support K8 outreach efforts for show marketing and 8th grade transition/auditions.

New volunteers will join a dedicated team of parents currently in the roles of Chair, Treasurer, Publicity Lead, Graphic Designer, Webmaster, and PTO Liaison. Estimated time commitment for volunteers will vary from 2-10 hours per month. BHS FoPA is affiliated with the BHS PTO.

Why volunteer with FoPA? Because 650 students and their dedicated teachers rely on volunteers to partner with them to produce robust annual performances that enhance the creative culture in Brookline. Active parent participation in shows, fundraising and townwide outreach demonstrates Brookline’s commitment to the beneficial role of performing arts in public education. Students who are part of the performing arts community at BHS gain important outlets for personal expression and opportunities to learn new skills. For more information about how you can impact BHS students by supporting performing arts activities, contact 2021-22 Chair Elizabeth Schlosberg at fopa.bhs.pto@gmail.com, visit our website www.brooklinefopa.org and follow us on social media. Thank you!
